The fourth and final day of Finals Weekend did not disappoint, delivering another thrilling encounter between two of Denham Bowls Club’s finest: Joe O’Hara and David Scaresbrook, this time battling it out in the Men’s Two Woods Final. The anticipation was palpable as both players lined up once again, with David coming into the match as defending champion, seeking to secure yet another title this season.

In a close-fought contest, both men played with an air of caution, knowing that one mistake could decide the outcome. The overcast Tuesday afternoon added a touch of drama to what was already a gripping spectacle, as the two tactical geniuses exchanged shot after shot in a calculated dance on the green. In the end, David Scaresbrook held his nerve and safely retained his Men’s Two Woods trophy, capping off an incredible season.

David’s Remarkable Season

With this victory, David made it a clean sweep of defences, successfully holding onto three of the trophies he lifted in 2023—Men’s Championship, Bill Wicks Trophy, and now the Men’s Two Woods. His consistency and focus throughout the season have been nothing short of remarkable, cementing his place as one of Denham Bowls Club’s greatest champions.

Joe O’Hara’s Epic Run

Though Joe O’Hara was unable to dethrone David in this final, his season has been nothing short of spectacular. Reaching six finals in one season is an achievement few can match, and Joe is now well on his way to breaking the club record for the most silverware in DBC history. Joe’s incredible skill and determination continue to make him a formidable force on the green.

A Brilliant Season Draws to a Close

With this final match concluded, the curtains have officially drawn on the outdoor season for 2024. It has been a season filled with unforgettable moments, nail-biting finishes, and impressive displays of sportsmanship and skill. The club has once again showcased the heart and spirit that makes Denham Bowls Club such a special place.

As we wrap up the season, we look ahead to a friendly finale between the ladies and gents—an opportunity to reflect on the year’s achievements and enjoy one last hurrah before turning our attention to Short Mat Bowls for the winter.

Cheers! Club Treasurer Dave Beattie raises a glass to celebrate a fantastic weekend of competition!
